FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – YORK, S.C. – (Feb. 7, 2020) – Sparrow Ranch on the Island, a non-profit 501(c)(3) Christ centered ministry for those with special needs and their families, is continuing its grassroots racing campaign in 2020.
Launched last year, the program partnered with more than 50 race car drivers from various racing disciplines in an effort to bring the ministry of Sparrow Ranch on the Island to grassroots racing and NASCAR communities across America.
“We launched this campaign last year with great excitement and high hopes on a very small budget,” said Sparrow Ranch on the Island Ricky Teal. “Our director Annie Fritz and I were hopeful we could make a positive impact in communities across the country with our race teams, even if it was a small gesture of kindness. After a couple months it became obvious to us that God had gone before us and had began to work in the hearts of many of our team members and the ones they would come in contact with.
“Soon the testimonies began pouring in by the hundreds and we were just in awe of what God was doing. Our drivers signed items and personally searched out and found those in need and gave them gifts and spent time with them, building relationships to be never forgotten. Annie was working literally almost 18 hours a day responding and talking to people who were being impacted by the program.
“We are so excited to incorporate new creative ideas for the 2020 racing season. Thanks to Soldiers For Faith, through the technology of their conference call in Bible studies we are able to provide all of our teams, families and their fans a chance to gather together on one call to share in fellowship and Bible study anywhere in the country weekly. Our director Annie Fritz is a big advocate for safety and with the help of Cole Glasson’s Glasson Legacy fund we are able to provide some safety equipment to drivers in need and many more great things you will see during the year.”
This year the program will partner with more than 70 teams across the United States and three countries. Racers from all levels of motorsport – ranging from the NASCAR Xfinity Series to local short tracks – in an effort to bring the ministry of Sparrow Ranch on the Island to communities across America. This year’s logo was designed by award winning motorsports graphics artist Shawn Magee with SMD.
Sparrow Ranch on the Island has previously been involved in motorsports at several levels, including partnering with race teams in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series, Xfinity Series and ARCA Menards Series.
“Our goal is to work with team owners, drivers and track owners that have the same values as Sparrow Ranch,” Teal continued. “We want to invest our time and resources into those teams to inspire and encourage the world around us to live a life more pleasing to Christ. As the founder of Sparrow Ranch, racing has always been a rich family tradition in my life. As the doors of racing have opened over the past few years as an avenue into a mission field, God has given us a vision, the people, resources and the passion to lead by example to be a beacon of light to bring hope and share the love of Jesus Christ to all those we meet.
“We have made it our goal to start at the very beginning stages of racing with our youngest racers in go karts and up through grassroots racing. From dirt track warriors to asphalt legends to NASCAR heroes, we challenge them all to be as competitive off the track as they are on the track in doing what is right and leading by example.
Each of the 70 competitors selected for the Sparrow Ranch on the Island grassroots program – who range in age from 5 to 73 years old – will carry the Sparrow Ranch On the Island Grassroots Racing logo throughout the 2020 season.
In addition, McCallister Precision Marketing, which was involved in the program last year, will once again be a part of the program with its team of young drivers and partners.
“Having Tonya McCallister and her MPM Marketing team involved again is very important to us. Tonya knows grassroots racing and her connections with teams like Lee Faulk Racing and Development are very important and help us spread our message,” Teal said. “We want to be a part of the racing community and to help everyone and anyone out there who needs it. I firmly believe in this program and the good it does for the racing community as a whole.”
